Y’ALL! Lots to share this month.
In one week I fly to Europe for 200 days to make 200 drawings of street scenes I find. This is a residency/sabbatical type of project I created to devote real-ass time to the work. Read more about the what and why here.
The idea for this came to me soon after The Roadtrip Show finished in Oct 2022. It’s part of what makes my imminent departure so surreal. For 16 months I’ve been planning the route, saving money and booking apartments and hotels. And now I’m looking around like, wait, I’m going on this trip next week? Surreal, and scary eep!
A month or two ago I taped up a post-it near my desk that read “Devotion”. It’s a word I’ve been sitting with lately and it helps calm the anxiety of this big trip. It’s my commitment to following my ideas through the dark so the work can develop into its truest form. And this trip is a step further into the dark.
I hope you come along with 200 Days! I will still send these monthly emails with travel stories and favorite drawings from that month, and of course posting to instagram everyday. One easy way to support the project is to share it with a friend that would enjoy such a thing. Thank you for your support over the years, I see it and it helps immensely.
Day 1 is February 5, 2024
Day 200 is August 22, 2024
On September 20, 2024, one night only, I am hosting an art show party and hanging 60ish of the 200 Days originals at The Cathedral in East Austin.
AND BIG REVEAL, the triptych is done! I adore these babies. This intersection (I-35 & 15th St.) has been a muse for years, and to have this on-ramp on canvas in this way stills something in me. Devotion, y’all.
